About Legacy+

Legacy+ is a collection of mods by the Legacy+ team, created and maintained by Yoniko (lead dev). The mods in question are for various historical versions of Minecraft, each one aiming to revitalize the game with new content and improve the overall experience by adding quality of life improvements.

How many mods are in the Legacy+ Collection?

The Legacy+ collection originally started out as a trilogy of mods for the earliest versions of Minecraft, namely Classic+, Indev+ and Infdev+. Each mod follows a specific design philosophy and serves as a complete overhaul for its respective base version, almost like it came from an alternate universe, where Notch took a different approach with the game’s development and design.
As of late 2025, the collection has been expanded with an additional trilogy of smaller-scale mods for the Alpha, Beta and early Release era. These mods, contrary to the original trilogy, aim to simply improve the base version’s gameplay experience by implementing quality of life additions and content that more accurately reflects the game’s scope at the time.

Which mods are still supported?

Currently there are 2 mods that have been sunsetted, 1 mod that is in active production, 1 mod that is receiving extended support in the form of bug-fixing patches, and 1 upcoming mod that hasn't been released/started development yet. For more concrete information, please refer to the below list:

Why even do all this?

The earliest builds of the game (those from 2009 and early 2010) have had the most potential to branch off into a completely different game. The Legacy+ project explores simply one of many possibilities for how the game we all know and love might have evolved. Each mod from the main trilogy follows a particular set of design guidelines that can be summed up in three words: Create, Survive & Explore.

The “Recrafted” duology of mods follows a slightly different ruleset. These mods focus more on simply improving the experience of the base version and not meddle too much with the core progression or gameplay loop. They are meant to serve as a more “modern” way to play these old versions, whilst retaining everything that makes them special to begin with.
